NZ has three Pencil winners (the colour will be announced next month) from the first day of results from D&AD London. Australian agencies notched four.
In total, 78 Pencils were awarded in Press Advertising, Radio Advertising, Mobile Marketing, Writing for Design on Day One.
The first set of D&AD Pencil winners for 2016 were announced overnight, but entrants will have to wait until the award ceremony at Battersea Evolution on Thursday 19 May to find out which colour Pencil (Wood, Graphite, Yellow, White or Black) they’ve won.
The UK leads the list so far with 21 Pencils, the US has 15, South Africa 8, Singapore 6. All Pencil winners will appear in the 54th D&AD Annual published later this year.
There are no quotas for awards at D&AD. Therefore the number of awarded entries fluctuates year to year. Some years no Black Pencils are awarded: the record currently stands at seven. Traditionally the toughest of the awards shows, the judging process is famously rigorous, with the juries only selecting work they believe is truly exceptional.
“Take a walk through the displays, or stop by some of the screening rooms at The Old Truman Brewery and you will see how fantastic over 26,000 pieces of the world’s best creative work look side by side,” said D&AD ceo Tim Lindsay.
