Special taps Angus Hennah, Sandra Daniel: Special Group has strengthened the senior line up in its Auckland office with the appointment of Angus Hennah as creative director and Sandra Daniel as business director.
“We have an amazing group of very smart and ambitious clients, like 2degrees, NZTE, Smirnoff, Red Bull, AA Insurance, TSB Bank and Qantas in Australia, who require very smart senior talent,” says Special Group creative partner Tony Bradbourne.
“Angus and Sandra have a proven track record separately and together are very modern thinkers and are both very nice people. It’s just brilliant to have them in the group.”
Special has just been appointed by Holden and Yealands Family Wines.
“We are lucky to have some deep automotive experience at Special,” said managing partner Michael Redwood. “Rob Jack worked on pan-European launches for VW at DDB in London and Tony was senior art director for Volvo in Europe when working in Amsterdam – so to be able to add Angus and Sandra to that mix is pretty impressive.”
Bradbourne said: “Angus and Sandra created some very impressive results for Holden last year, helping drive sales by 15%. They bring a lot of experience and insight. Add that to Special’s track record of highly effective creative thinking and digital innovation and we have a fantastic team on Holden.”
Hennah was most recently ECD of Ogilvy & Mather NZ for more than two years (he left O&M in November last year “to seek new challenges”) and ECD of JWT Auckland (and then Sydney) for six years. He has 10 years’ Australian experience and 10 years in New Zealand and is currently ranked as one of NZ’s top 10 ECDs and top 5 creatives on Campaign Brief’s Creative Rankings.
Previously, Hennah worked at Clemenger Sydney then Clemenger Wellington where he created award-winning work for LTNZ and contributed creatively to the NZRU’s successful Rugby World Cup bid.
He has won numerous local and international awards including Cannes Lions across film, cyber, outdoor and media categories, Grand & Gold Effies, and most recently, two D&AD pencils.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Tony & Rob, Matty & Dave and the whole team,” Hennah says. “Special has taken off both here and Australia. It’s an exciting time to come onboard a place with real momentum, and I’m sure my experience on both sides of the Tasman can be put to good use.”
Sandra Daniel has 20 years’ advertising experience across both local and international markets and has an strong depth of brand, retail and FMCG experience. She has worked at NZ agencies Clemenger BBDO, M&C Saatchi, Publicis Mojo and Ogilvy & Mather leading some of New Zealand’s best blue chip brands.
She also has extensive automotive experience having worked for 12 years both agency and client side in the category. She is taking on the business director role at Special to lead the recently won Holden New Zealand account.
“After working for multinationals my entire career, the prospect of helping grow the business of New Zealand’s leading independent agency is an exciting new challenge,” she says.
Going solo: Colenso senior editor/director Marco Siraki is leaving the Auckland agency to start his own content creation agency, The Content Boutique.
Siraki has spent 15 years in TV and advertising, working as an editor and DoP in top agencies, including FCB Auckland, .99 and TVNZ. He sees The Content Boutique as bridging the gap between agency and production house – making high-end visual content more accessible.
“My whole career has been leading up to this,” he says. “Right now there is a huge need within creative departments for cost-effective, great quality content for TV and online. So the timing just felt right.”
He says the new agency will offer a large range of services, such as filming, editing, motion design, camera tracking, chroma keying, VFX, compositing, online editing/finishing and colour grading.
His award-winning work includes MINI Driving Dogs, Mountain Dew and Breast Cream.
