TVNZ restructures, axes 30 staff

TVNZ is following a similar restructuring path to MediaWorks TV, with ceo Kevin Kenrick announcing the disestablishment of “approximately” 30 roles.

Kenrick issued a statement on Friday, indicating that “the consultation phase” for a reorganisation of our business” began last week. “The proposal includes a re-ordering of business units and reporting lines,” he said.

“This is about responding to the rapidly changing media market and aligning resources towards shaping TVNZ’s future, particularly in the digital space,” he said.

“It is expected TVNZ’s new structure will be confirmed by early August. No further comment will be provided during the current consultation process.”

Kenrick’s statement gave no hint about what led to the restructure; neither did he specify which staff and departments are most affected.

“It’s a difficult time,” one senior TVNZ staffer told M+AD this morning.
