MDS AdSchool students have dominated the News Works NZ Student Newspaper Campaign of the Year, taking out the winner and runner-up place and all three topical places.
“Clearly our students have been keeping a keen eye on the news this year,” says AdSchool CD Kate Humphries.
The Student Campaign of the Year was won by Heathcliff Hall & Shahid Kasuji, and the runner-up spot by Janssen Chen & Joaquina Rockwell.
Both campaigns, which explored the relationship between newspaper reading and public transport, won after going through two rounds of judging.
Joaquina Rockwell, together with Liam Crerar, took out both the winning topical ad (which linked Apple’s iconic Think Different campaign and rainbow logo with America’s announcing its legalisation of same-sex marriage) and the 3rd place topical.
The runner-up spot for topical went to Steve Charlton and Ezra Whall.
“Congratulations to all the students and a big thank you to News Works’ Kirsty Atkins and Georgina Davies for organising the brief, the briefing and the two rounds of judging,” Humphries said.
“We’d also like to give a big shout out to MDS AdSchool graduate Christie Cooper, who together with her partner James Conner, won the industry big one – the Newspaper Ad of the Year – for their Reverse April Fools Day ad, an ad which has given this year’s students a severe dose of idea envy.”
