On the left is the new MediaWorks logo, courtesy of Mark Weldon and Auckland agency OneDesign. On the right is the logo of Australia’s ABC.

The new MediaWorks logo appears to be a double helix – the global symbol for the double-stranded DNA molecule. So does the ABC logo.

Are the two related, do you think? Or just an error of judgment?

(A Google search tells us that the double helix is an ancient symbol of commerce. Google also reveals that it’s an ancient phallic symbol.)

The third image, below, is the previous MediaWorks logo.

MediaWorks says the new double helix logo represents the intertwining of multiple brands which share the same DNA.

M+AD thanks keen reader Terry Marston who alerted us to the resemblance.
