Story rocks 7 Sharp in early Newshub ratings

485,600 (5+ cume) Kiwis tuned in to the first Newshub Live at 6pm bulletin last night – 1 26% increase on the daily February audience, according to a MediaWorks release out this morning.

The bulletin secured a 6.8 rating and a 26 share in 25 to 54.

Outside of Auckland, Newshub Live at 6pm experienced a 31% increase in 25-54 (cume) audience, and a 40% increase amongst Auckland viewers (25-54 cume), compared to February 2015 daily average.

The figures also revealed:

  • For the first time, Story beat Seven Sharp in 25-54, securing a 5.7 rating and 16.3 share, versus a 5.3 rating and 15.4 share
  • MediaWorks provided more than 5 1/2 hours of dedicated news content on TV alone, with a (5+ cume) reach of 834,300 yesterday – an increase of 26% compared to the February 2015 daily average.
  • In the core target demographic of 25-54 (compared to February 2015 average audience), MediaWorks saw an increase in all news shows, Paul Henry, Newshub Midday, Newshub Live at 6pm, Story and Newshub Late.
  • The nine radio station networks broadcast 190 Newshub bulletins on 220 frequencies nationwide, plus it was simulcast Newshub Late at 6pm, Story and Paul Henry on RadioLIVE.
  • On Newshub.co.nz’s first day, unique visitors to the site grew 32% compared to Auckland Anniversary Day last year. Video streams increased a significant amount, with 48% being views of Newshub Live at 6pm.
  • Within 18 hours of launch the Newshub app became the most popular app download, and most popular news app, in the App Store (“with 5-star reviews,” MediaWorks says).
  • Newshub’s total social reach was more than 539,225, with a social fan base of 340,946. #newshub trending #1 throughout the day, and trending all day.
