Amar Trivedi reports from the latest Social Media Club Auckland event: Around 300 movers and shakers ditched their ‘binge watch of choice’ to learn about the changing entertainment landscape and the role of social media within it at SMCAKL on Wednesday.

With a record number of registrations, the room was at full capacity with standing room only available towards the back of the room. The event was also tuned into via live streams across Facebook and YouTube.

The stellar all-women panel included Kym Niblock (ceo Lightbox), Kathy Wright (Head Of Curation, Emerging Platforms); and TV/social media personality Chrystal Chenery (The Bachelor NZ & Dancing with the Stars).

The emcee and organizer for this month’s event was Angela March. The topic: Binge-watching – The beginning or the end of social entertainment?

The mixed panel led to interesting conversations on everything from local content to how much social media impacts what the content providers select for their platforms. The audience was hungry for answers on the cost of viewing sport. And we all learnt that 3 shows in a row is enough to constitute binge watching.
