The folks at iconic Kiwi production house Flying Fish – the people behind an astonishing stream of TVCs that mirror the path of NZ history over the past 30 years – are in celebration mode.

Can’t blame them! Here’s some landmarks to consider:

  • Company founded 31 May 1986 by Brian Kassler, Lee Tamahori and Elly Toft.
  • Original office was Wellington, then branched out to Auckland in 1990. BK exported to London in 1996 to open the production service office there and Sydney followed in 1999 to fly the Fish flag in Australia.
  • James Moore came on in 2001 to start and head up Fish&Clips, back then a dedicated music video division, which has since branched out to a fully fledged content arm boasting its own roster of directors and creative producers.
  • In 2005 Moore was tapped to run Fish, the commercial mothership. Since then he has now become the sole owner of the company.
  • At the start of 2016, Samantha Attenborough was promoted to executive producer to assist with the commercial business, giving Moore time to concentrate on the future of the company and growth.
  • Soon to be announcing a long form dedicated division tapping into the successful talents of Fish’s roster of feature film directors and producers to deliver top international long form
  • Content produced here in NZ.
  • Fish is rated in the top five production houses in Australasia
  • They’ve notched up over 5000 commercial pieces of content and moving pictures, and created a great breeding platform in Fish&Clips focusing on anything content and music videos
  • The company had more recently downsized to one Auckland office – but is scouting and in talks to regain its Sydney glory
  • “And we do not look 30,” says executive producer Samantha Attenborough. “We’re timeless (and use a shitload of botox).”

“It’s a pretty big deal for us and our contemporaries,” Attenborough says.
