Julian Dennison, the young star of Taika Waititi’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople, takes centre stage in the launch campaign for Bargain Box, a new, super-affordable meal delivery service for families set up by My Food Bag.
The launch TVC, created by Saatchi & Saatchi and directed by Paolo Rotondo, aired for the first time on Sunday night. The agency was also responsible for the Bargain Box branding, packaging design, website and online content. It marks the first major delivery of work since My Food Bag appointed Saatchi & Saatchi as its agency of record earlier this year.
Speaking about the experience of making the commercial Dennison said, “It was a great day. I love everything about being with Bargain Box. The food is awesome, Nadia is really cool and I had loads of fun making the ad.”
Guy Roberts, joint ECD of Saatchi & Saatchi said, “Julian is an exceptional talent and had us all in hysterics on set. His comic timing is brilliant and he was an absolute pleasure to work with.
“It’s been a lightning-fast ride getting all the Bargain Box campaign elements ready for launch – working across everything from the packaging design, to the website, through to the TVC. It’s been a brilliant experience from start to finish with our awesome clients. I’m really proud of what the team has produced.”
Hunt for Wilderpeople became a smash hit for Waititi and Dennison’s co-star, Sam Neil. It’s the nation’s highest grossing movie of all time and recently snared a place in film review website Rotten Tomatoes top 100 movies of all time.
Not so many years ago, Dennison was a regular pre-teen growing up in the Lower Hutt suburb of Naenae. He made his film debut in 2013 in Shopping after attending open auditions at his primary school.
He came to Waititi’s notice as one of the children in the celebrated drug-driving ad Blazed. Bargain Box represents the first product that he has fronted commercially.
Bargain Box customers order online and receive a box of ingredients and recipes for a week of tasty, fresh and easy family dinners for up to six people, starting at $79.99 plus delivery per box.
