MediaCom and bcg 2’s campaign for Safekids Aotearoa Check For Me Before You Turn The Key has won Gold at the 2017 Festival of Media Global Awards in Rome. MediaCom was also named Agency Network of the Year.

The recognition follows Safekids Aotearoa’s collection of four Gold awards and recognition as Advertiser of the Year at last week’s Beacons Media Awards in Auckland.

‘We’re really proud to see this work winning on the world stage,” said bcg2 chairman James Blackwood.

“We’ve worked with Safekids since 2007, so it’s great to see an idea drive positive behaviour changes that save lives and that this strategic approach to a creative media idea is being recognised internationally.”

Finland too
Check For Me Before You Turn The Key is Safekid’s Aotearoa’s most successful marketing and creative campaign ever, Blackwood says. It has already collected a Bronze Axis, two Golds and Silver at the 2016 NZDM awards and Silver and two Bronze at the 2016 NZ Effies. The campaign was recognised with a Bronze medal at the ISMA International Safety Media Awards in Finland in 2016, and is also a finalist at the upcoming July PR Awards.

“Check For Me key has connected with New Zealanders – particularly with Maori, Pacific and low-income families – to reduce driveway runover deaths,” Blackwood said. “The strategic approach transforms evidence-based research into a compelling story through kanohi ki te kanohi [face-to- face communication].”

Safekids Aotearoa marketing & comms manager Anthony Rola said: “It’s great to see this approach being recognised globally.”
