Entries are now open for the 2017 New Zealand Social Media Awards, aka the #NZSMAs (formerly known as the #SMCAKLs). This year’s event will be NZ’s biggest ever celebration of social media talent,” says the ceo/organiser, Auckland-based digital designer/entrepreur Julian A Waters.
“Everything is covered, from agency and brand work to content creators across Facebook, Twitter, YoutTube, Instagram, Snapchat and more.”
The event host, actor Kimberley Crossman, says she is so thrilled to be involved she visited Sam Clayton at Ink Rush Tattoos to get the hashtag #nzsma imprinted on her back*.

Entries and nominations are being accepted at www.nzsma.nz from now until Friday 23 June.
The awards have been expanded from seven categories in 2016 to 20 this year – six for campaigns, two for community building and management, nine for creators/influencers and three overall awards.

The awards night will be held in Auckland City on Wednesday 26 July, featuring performances by “some of NZ’s biggest online stars” and “a range of our finest local food and beverages, including Invivo Wines, Hallertau Beer and Karma Cola”.
“Our social media industry has come of age” Waters says. “This celebration will be the first large-scale showcase of our thriving community of extraordinary online talent.
“The people in the room will collectively have tens if not hundreds of millions of followers online. In this period of upheaval in the traditional media business this event will celebrate our mastery of the fast-growing communication channels of the future.”
Sponsorship opportunities are available, he says.
The finalists will be selected by leading NZ social media talent. Waters says international experts will select the category winners and supreme award winner.
