FCB New Zealand has today announced the appointment of Dan Martin as the agency’s new ceo, based in Auckland. He replaces Brian van den Hurk who retired in February.
Martin joins FCB at the start of August from the UK, where he was chief operating officer of Ogilvy & Mather London.
Prior to his tenure with Ogilvy he worked for Fallon, WCRS, Lowe Lintas and JWT. His clients have included Smirnoff, Adidas, Rolls-Royce, Vodafone, Heineken, Unilever, Bacardi and MINI.
“After an international search, we’re extremely pleased to have secured top-notch talent to lead FCB New Zealand,” said FCB global vice chairman Bryan Crawford. “Dan is a focused and energetic leader who has extensive experience in client management and agency operations.
“Working with the deeply experienced FCB New Zealand management team, I know he will build on what has made the agency so successful and take the agency to even greater heights.”
While at Ogilvy, Martin secured Kronenbourg UK’s social advertiser of-the-year status, drove behavioural science into the heart of the UK’s biggest supermarket, Tesco, and led SCJ, the world’s largest account win of 2012, to renewed financial success across 55 markets.
“I’m excited about the prospect of living in New Zealand and sitting in the home crowd at Eden Park.”
He was instrumental in leading the SC Johnson account from the shopper, media, advertising and social perspectives, and used this multi-layered piece of business to re-engineer a traditional agency into a principal integrated agency.
While at WCRS he led his client Transport for London to being voted UK advertiser of the year by Campaign magazine. He has also previously secured new business including MINI globally, Diageo wines, Rolls-Royce and Transport for London.
Outside of advertising, Martin has run a successful craft brewery and is half-way through his first children’s novel (a status which hasn’t changed in two years and is unlikely to change anytime soon, given his new role).
Martin said, “FCB New Zealand is pretty much unequalled in having a world-class integrated media, creative and in-house production offering. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with a lovely bunch of people in further unleashing their talent and our unique agency offering to provide our exceptional roster of clients with a totally unfair market advantage.
“I also can’t deny that I’m excited about the prospect of living in New Zealand and sitting in the home crowd at Eden Park.”
