Dame Julie Christie is stepping down from the MediaWorks board – a role she has held since 2013 –at the end of June to return to television production and to take on two new board roles.
“I think it’s important that directors refresh their governance portfolios regularly and that boards refresh their skill set regularly – so after more than four years with MediaWorks, it is time for me to do other things,” she said in a statement issued this morning by MediaWorks.
“I have now taken up two new roles which enable me to pursue my interest in economic development – as a trustee of Development West Coast and as a member of the steering group for New Zealand’s World Expo 2020 project.
“As a director of MediaWorks, I’ve had a much-needed break from actually producing television but now I really want to be able to develop some new ideas, specifically in international documentary.”
MediaWorks chairman Jack Matthews said: “MediaWorks has worked to fundamentally transform its business during the past four, and Julie has been a major part of that.”
