Mai FM began broadcasting in Hamilton today on 105.8FM, bringing “Aotearoa’s Hottest Hip Hop and RnB” to the Waikato.

Waikato-raised Mai FM programme director, DJ and NZ hip hop pioneer Philip Bell (DJ Sir-Vere) is excited about the launch into Hamilton.

“Go the Chiefs! I’ve been waiting some time for this and it has finally happened. I’m just so stoked that we can bring New Zealand’s best hip hop and RnB station to my hometown,” he said.

“We received an incredible welcome from our new regions last year and we know the appetite for hip hop and RnB continues to grow. It’s also Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori and we are proud to launch in a week that celebrates the rich heritage of the station.”

The new 105.8FM frequency for Mai FM will carry existing programming, including Mai Mornings with Nickson, Nate and Kanoa from 6am weekdays. Mai FM marketing manager  Charene Siakimotu says the network will continue to represent multicultural New Zealand, “featuring young emerging talent and an urban contemporary playlist”.
