Australian start-up company Commtract, which markets itself as “the Uber of PR”, is launching in New Zealand, connecting organisations on both sides of the Tasman with its PR and communications professionals through an innovative online portal.

They liken themselves to Uber because of the ease of accessing support through a simple online system.

“Commtract allows organisations to upload details of projects they need communications support on, which in turn connects them with expert communications and PR practitioners who have the necessary skills and experience to undertake the work,” says Sydney-based founder/chairman Peter McConnell.

“The programme is gold for clients who don’t necessarily need a fulltime communications resource within their business,” he says.

“This allows businesses to access exactly the experience and skillset they need for upcoming projects including media relations, communications strategies, crisis and issues management, financial reporting, content writing, digital and social media, government relations and stakeholder engagement.

“Commtract is leading the market in not only offering organisations highly talented and experienced communicators across both sides of the Tasman at the click of a button, but also in offering its many contractors the flexibility more and more people are looking for.

“NZ manager Jo de Joux managed the last five election campaigns for the New Zealand National Party.”

“Commtract sees itself as a real leader in what is a hugely dynamic and ever-changing workforce.

“It’s also creating some incredible opportunities for eligible Kiwis and Australians who are prepared to hop on a plane and undertake contracts in either country. We really do believe we’re leading a generation of change in the workplace, and we’re hugely excited to be launching Commtract on this side of the Tasman.”

Commtract launched 18 months ago in Australia and claims to have more than 1600 communications contractors and 350 organisations on board.

It began operating in New Zealand this month – in the experienced hands of NZ manager Jo de Joux, who managed the last five election campaigns for the New Zealand National Party. She says the company has already signed up “more than 50 highly qualified communications contractors, several with 20+ years of experience in public affairs and communications”.

McConnell says Commtract’s other point of difference is that it is only run by communications practitioners who know what they’re talking about when it comes to securing communications talent.

“In New Zealand we’re delighted to have Jo de Joux on board. As a veteran of five election campaigns, a communications professional and consultant, Jo knows the New Zealand communications and public affairs market and many of those working in it,” he says.
