New Zealand Steel has appointed DDB as creative agency for both NZ Steel and its various brands including Colorsteel, Steltech and AXXIS. The appointment will see DDB leading all advertising communications across the business.

The incumbent was Harvey Cameron, and – although no other details were provided in the Mango release announcing the win, M+AD’s been told there was no pitch

Sarah Pepworth, NZ Steel head of marketing, says the business is excited about the new partnership and has some great projects in the pipeline.

“NZ Steel has a rich heritage in this country and we’re part of the cultural fabric,” she said in the release. “The team at DDB really connected with the importance of what we do, the value of how we do it, and how we’d like that expressed to the New Zealand public.”

“They’re holding up our bridges, putting roofs over our heads and providing the framework for our cities.”

The first major piece of work in production is a Colorsteel brand campaign, launching later this year.

“We’re really looking forward to unveiling what the team are working on for Colorsteel,” Pepworth said. “There’s been a huge amount of thought, consideration and passion put into this both internally and at DDB.”

DDB NZ ceo Justin Mowday says he looks forward to driving growth for the business through effective communications building fame, feeling and fluency.

“NZ Steel is a very special brand. What it represents, its contribution to New Zealand and innovation within domestic production and export is fantastic. It’s always exciting to work with a business that feels integral to who we are as a country.

“They’re holding up our bridges, putting roofs over our heads and providing the framework for our cities,” says Justin. “It’s a powerful story and one that we’re looking forward to telling.”
