NZ in from the Dark at D&AD

After a complete absence from the top 10 last year, New Zealand ad creativity has returned to D&AD, securing 8th spot on its prestigious global agencies chart, released in London overnight. A highlight was the achievement of DDB NZ’s Geordie Wilson, who was ranked #17 copywriter in the world.

These results are based on returns from the D&AD 2018 Awards. No 1 country was the US (followed by the UK, Japan, Germany, Australia (5th), France, Brazil, NZ, Singapore and India.

The top three agencies in the world were BBDO New York, McCann New York, AMVBBDO London.

NZ’s 8th spot this year was due to these Pencil wins …

  • 2 x Yellow Pencils (for Y&R Heinz Beanz in Campaign Branding & Identity) and DDB Netsafe Re:scam in Digital Design)
  • 3 x Graphite Pencils (for FCB client Health Promotion Agency in Art Direction)
  • 2 x Graphite Pencils for Colenso Mars Child Replacement Programme in Direct and Integrated
  • 12 Wood Pencils for FCB (x2), Ogilvy, DDB (x3), Colenso BBDO (x3), JWT (1).

Broadly, a Black is Best in Show, Yellow is Gold, Graphite Silver, and Wood Bronze.

This year, for the first time, individual rankings have been calculated for the Most Awarded Art Directors, Creative Directors, Designers and Copywriters.

  9. Publicis Worldwide
  10. J Walter Thompson

The top indie networks were:

  1. Jung von Matt
  2. Wieden+Kennedy
  3. Dentsu

“Looking across this year’s results in comparison with 2017 figures, we note that Brazil, New Zealand and India have entered the top 10 country rankings, attesting to D&AD’s extensive reach and highlighting the development of a traditionally Western-centric creative sector to one that is well and truly global,” says the overnight D&AD release.
