W.A.M. Bleakley (William Alexander Magnus, aka Bill) has progressed from VCA graduate, to award-winning short film maker, to award-winning music video director, to the Curious roster of commercial directors.

With his background, Bleakley has already developed a strong visual narrative ability and a distinct aesthetic.

Bleakley’s short film A Birthday Party was a Sydney Film Festival Dendy Awards finalist in 2017. It also played at Melbourne International Film Festival 2017, where he was invited to attend the Accelerator Lab. His documentary Last Man Standing was a Tropfest finalist in 2018, and played at the UK’s leading documentary festival, Sheffield Doc Fest 2018.

“Curious unrelentingly delivers work of the highest standard – I’m honoured to have the opportunity to creatively meet those standards.”

Bleakley has directed a series of successful music videos with Curious this year. DMA’s The End won Best Director, Best Video and Best Cinematography at Vivid Sydney’s Clipped Music Video Festival. Another video he directed, Guillotine for DZ Deathrays was also selected for Clipped Music Video Festival. Bleakley has also worked with other artists such as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Brian Jonestown Massacre.

“Bill has more than proven his skills while at Curious, his solo efforts and colab with director Lucy Knox go from strength to strength and we can’t wait to see how far he’ll go,” says Kate Roydhouse, Curious Film Managing Director and Executive Producer.

Bleakley said: “Curious unrelentingly demands and delivers work of the highest standard and I’m honoured to be given the opportunity to creatively live up to those standards.”

Bleakley will be working independently, as well as part of the directing duo with Knox.
