Socialites, the award-winning specialist social media company founded by Wendy Thompson in 2010, has created a new campaign to re-launch Hera – Everyday Goddess, a participant-led project that looks to empower girls aged 10-18 years to become active for life.

Dr Sarah Sandley, ceo of Auckland Sport & Recreation (aka Aktive) says Hera’s vision is for Kiwi girls to build their sense of self-worth and confidence by participating in activity they choose, and the #HERAhustle campaign is set to support this.

“Recent figures indicate just 6% of New Zealand young girls are reaching the recommended levels of activity,” she said. “This campaign is all about engaging girls and sharing and celebrating different opportunities for them to enjoy and participate in physical activity.

“We’re partnering with a group of talented and driven young females to help promote confidence in

girls in New Zealand and highlight the advantages of maintaining a physical lifestyle. These girls have love of being active and we want to share that feeling with other Kiwi girls.”

A number of “ambassadors” have put their support behind the campaign including HERA Ambassador World MotoX rider Courtney Duncan, mountain bike racer Jessica Manchester and CrossFit athlete Tegan Bartlett.

“We pitched for this work as it is such a worthy project, building New Zealand females as confident happy, active people.”

It also features rising female athletes, many of whom will be competing at the upcoming Youth Olympic games including women’s rugby star Hinemoa Watene and NZ netballer Maia Wilson.

“For the #HERAhustle campaign, girls are encouraged to get their hustle on by sharing how they enjoy being active, using the campaign hashtag over Instagram and challenging other girls to do the same,” Dr Sandley said.

Girls can also enter and submit through the Hera website (scroll down).

Aktive communications & marketing manager Jo Redfern said: “Socialites believe when people can see themselves in ads and relate, the message works so much harder for clients. So, this is an exciting opportunity to work with Hera and our Hera ambassadors and promote the effects of the project vision in the young people already living it.”

Wendy Thompson said: “We pitched for this work as it is such a worthy and necessary project, building New Zealand females as confident happy, active people.

“I am proud of my team for creating a beautiful plan.”

Hera, Everyday Goddess is led and Funded by Aktive, with Sport NZ, Auckland Council and NZ Community Trust.
