Once more, with feeling

AUCKLAND, Friday: The Comms Council has issued the entry call for Axis 2019 – the call went live yesterday, and stays alive until Tuesday 22 January 2019 at 4pm.

The 2019 convenor of judges – DDB ECD Shane Bradnick – says the theme of this year’s awards is Can you feel it?

“There are a lot of good ideas out there – ideas that make us stop and think,” he said. “But the truly great ideas stop us in our tracks because of how they make us feel. They make us laugh, make us cry, make us jealous. The best work provokes an emotional reaction from the audience.

“This year, Axis is celebrating the work that moves us, and in turn moves the industry forward.”

Bradnick is joined by Saatchi & Saatchi MD Paul Wilson (chair), and executive judges Brigid Alkema (ECD, Clemenger BBDO), Regan Grafton (CCO, Ogilvy), Jonny Kofoed (director of motion & design, Assembly) and Aaron Turk (CD, Little Giant).

“The craft of creativity, engaging audiences and building brands must remain at the core of what we do as an industry.”

Axis 2019 will see the second year of The Brand Axis award, recognising a New Zealand business or organisation that has been successfully building and evolving its brand for the last decade. This award aligns with the industry focus on the importance of long-term brand building as a driver of commercial or social success.

Comms Council ceo Paul Head says Axis 2019 is about highlighting an increasingly crucial aspect of the industry’s work.

“Commercial creativity is more important than ever before,” Head says. “Great ideas that engage consumers emotionally, make them look at their world differently and ultimately change behaviours are what our clients should be demanding from us.

“So, the craft of creativity, engaging and entertaining audiences and building brands must remain at the core of what we do as an industry. And that’s why Axis is so important – it celebrates the work that has innovated, inspired and engaged.”
