VMLY&R NZ taps Mok as MD

AUCKLAND, Today: Former FCB NZ CCO James Mok has been appointed to the managing director role at VMLY&R NZ – a move confirmed this morning by Sydney-based PR executive Katy Denis.

Even her (breathtakingly brief) statement came only after a senior suit in Auckland interceded on M+AD’s behalf. We have chosen not to name this person (who alone in the entire VMLY&R Australasian empire tried their best – but told us all comments concerning NZ needed to be vetted by Australia).

Mok started in Auckland this week.

“The Auckland-based agency has been leaderless since the departure in December of MD Jono Key.”

Here’s Denis’ statement, in full: “We would like to warmly welcome James Mok to VMLY&R. We are thrilled to have a person of James’ calibre on board to help shape the future of the agency. This year is going to be very exciting as we formally launch the VMLY&R brand to the New Zealand market – flexing our exceptional brand experience offering through creativity, technology, data and culture to deliver communications across the entire connected customer experience.”

This statement was signed by VMLY&R regional joint Sydney-based CEOs Aden Hepburn and Pete Bosilkovski. Mok will apparently report to them.

The Auckland-based agency has been leaderless since the departure in December of MD Jono Key. Until now, all decisions have been handled out of Sydney.

Former MD Nicky Greville has been on maternity leave (she had a little boy!), and appears to still be part of the agency family – but we’ve been unable to confirm that.

Fleur Head remains the MD of VMLY&R Wellington. She declined to comment, deferring to Sydney.
