Ogilvy and JWT uncouple in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Tuesday: An ambitious plan to combine the operations of WPP agencies J Walter Thompson and Ogilvy in Malaysia under a one-company two-brands structure has failed.

The agencies will now return to individual operations, with a new management team in place at Ogilvy, headed by co-chief executives Nizwani Shahar and Campbell Cannon.

The reason for the change is said to be “complications” arising from WPP’s formation of Wunderman Thompson (from JWT and Wunderman).

Previously appointed to lead the combined entity, Saurabh Saksena has moved aside to become ceo of Wunderman Thompson Malaysia.
