AUCKLAND, Friday: Steve Bayliss (formerly of Foodstuffs, Air NZ, Lion Nathan) has been appointed chief marketing officer at Sky TV.

Sky media engagement manager Kristy Martin said (via a press release): “Steve is an accomplished and respected marketing professional with a broad depth of leadership experience across some of New Zealand’s most trusted brands.

“He is a passionate advocate for deep insight, outstanding customer experiences, and the power of creativity. He is a story teller, speaker, coach, and mentor, with a deep love for building great brands.”

Bayliss’ career started with Lion Nathan where it culminated in an Australian-based role developing and teaching marketing best practice across New Zealand, Australia, and China. He then moved to the US where he spent a few years in the bottled water and coffee business with Suntory before moving to Australia.

“At Foodstuffs, he was part of the team who created Pak’nSave Stickman.”

In 2004, he returned to New Zealand to join Air NZ as their marketing GM, and Foodstuffs, where was part of the team who created Pak’nSave Stickman.

In 2018 he left Foodstuffs to pursue a life-long writing passion – he has a business book coming out with Imagination Press in July, called Branded Culture, which traces his career through a series of stories that illustrate his beliefs on how enduringly great brands are built.

Bayliss has been a board director, a sought-after speaker, and advisor to a broad range of businesses.

Sky sales & marketing director Rawinia Newton has been acting in the CMO role since Mike Watson left last year.

Rawinia Newton has also since resigned from Sky – a significant contributor to the company for 18 years – the past 10 as director of ad sales.

Her present circumstances were not known at press time.
