AUCKLAND, Tuesday: Its high-noon in the Wild West as Texas Chicken and KFC go head-to-head in a contest for the custom of fried chicken connoisseurs on Auckland’s Lincoln Road.

Originally named Church’s Fried Chicken-To-Go in 1960, George W Church established the first outlet in downtown San Antonio, Texas – across from the Alamo.

They arrived in NZ in 2015 and so far have four outlets in Auckland and two in Rotorua. With three of them in West Auckland its clear they are targeting the true fried chicken connoisseurs hard and KFC are clearly feeling threatened.

“It’s a premium digital billboard that delivers great reach and is in close proximity to our Lincoln Road store.”

When asked whether KFC’s cheeky placement was intentional, M+AD was delivered a predictably bland response via Cassidy Meredith, group account director for Drum PR agency, who also confirmed that Ogilvy are the creatives behind the work.

“It’s a premium digital billboard that delivers great reach and is in close proximity to our Lincoln Road store,” Meredith said.

QMS confirmed they are marketing this premium outdoor site at 313 Lincoln Rd and “the billboard appears firmly placed on the right side of the boundary”.
