AUCKLAND, Today: Infratil’s plan to buy up to 50% of Vodafone NZ has been cleared by the Commerce Commission – news that will be met with satisfaction at DDB.

Vodafone NZ’s new chair Marko Bogoievski (who’s also ceo at Infratil) and ceo Jason Paris said the company will keep rights to the Vodafone name and retain access to Vodafone’s global technology, which translates to steady-as-she-goes for agency of record DDB.

However, it seems likely that DDB will need to deal with a rebrand at some time in the not-too-distant future as the new owners mark out their own turf.

Infratil is NZ-owned, and enters the Vodafone deal in partnership with Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management and Canadian firm Brookfield Asset Management.
