AUCKLAND, Tuesday: TVNZ and The Warehouse – with help from OMD – are aiming to bring back the joys of reading this summer, with the return of its iconic Goodnight Kiwi.

Sponsored by The Warehouse and assisted by a troupe of celebrity helpers, the Kiwi and Cat are back – bringing with them a selection of bedtime stories, exclusively for TVNZ OnDemand.

An all-star cast of bookworms, including Madeleine Sami and Jackie Van Beek, Evander Brown, Jeremy Wells, Stacey Morrison, Hilary Barry, Dean O’Gorman, The Topp Twins, Urzila Carlson Jayden Daniels and Oscar Kightley will read Kiwi kids their favourite stories.

While the series aims to entertain, the underlying ambition of the show is to inspire kids to read more and help all families with their literacy goals. The Warehouse, with their longstanding charity partner Duffy Books in Homes, will take the series further – the books featured will form part of The Warehouse’s buy-one-give-one campaign. This drive gives schools and families who might not have the opportunity to own their own books greater access.

“Goodnight Kiwi is produced in-house at TVNZ, and the message is being spread outside the network by media agency OMD.”

The Warehouse marketing GM Anna Lawrence said: “Like The Warehouse, Goodnight Kiwi was a part of growing up for many New Zealanders and we’re thrilled to help relaunch the show for a new generation to enjoy and read along with.

“Reading can greatly impact a child’s life, but for many Kiwi families, book ownership can be out of reach. Which is why throughout the series, for every book sold at The Warehouse which is featured on Goodnight Kiwi, we’ll also be gifting a book to a child in need through Duffy Books in Homes.”

The campaign will launch in all The Warehouse stores and online from Monday 4 November – Tuesday 24 December.

The series launches on 11th November, with two episodes per week. Kicking things off is comedy duo Madeleine Sami and Jackie Van Beek reading Baa Baa Smart Sheep and What Now’s Evander Brown narrating The Bomb.

TVNZ associate commercial director Jodi O’Donnell said: “entertaining kids content, with a side of education is at the heart of our programming choices.”
