AUCKLAND, Thursday: The NZ arm of global ad/media company Verizon Media has opened up its invitation-only talent development programme, Verizon Media Academy, to anyone within NZ media & creative agencies and brand-side marketers for a series of free virtual masterclasses designed to help people build for their future and adapt to the changing work environment.

The new 30-45-minute live sessions will be held fortnightly, with various industry speakers covering topics ranging from ways to build virtual relationships to channelling stress into productivity, and re-defining work-life balance in the altered business environment.

Neuroscientist and ceo/co-founder of health company Vitae NZ, Shelley Laslett, will lead the first launch session on ‘ The neuroscience of resilience and how to thrive in the new world’, scheduled for Wednesday 8 April 8 at 1pm (NZT).

Laslett will explore the correlation between stress and resilience, empowering the audience to channel their stress into productivity, better decision-making and collaboration.

Earlier this year, Kiwi talents Annie Bramwell from MBM, Kate Hopkinson from MediaCom, Kevin van Wyk from Rocket Network, Kirsty Jury from Vodafone NZ, and Lydia Sutton from Starcom were selected to attend the Verizon Media Academy on March 25 and 26 in Sydney, but the event was postponed until later in the year due to the evolving Covid-19 pandemic.

Verizon Media has now pivoted part of the programme to provide online training, and is opening up the masterclasses and past content to the wider industry across New Zealand and Australia.

Verizon’s Sydney-based ANZ MD Paul Sigaloff said: “While Verizon Media Academy has been an invitation-only programme, we recognise now is not the time for exclusivity and it’s imperative we as an industry are inclusive, generous and band together to share new ideas, knowledge and conversations during these new unprecedented times.

“We’ve developed a programme which will be beneficial for people at all levels of the industry, with things like resilience and productivity being tested in new ways. By strengthening our skills now we can forge a stronger and more united industry for the future.”
