AUCKLAND, Today: PrintNZ has announced the top five finalists in this year’s Apprentice of the Year Award. PrintNZ is the Industry association for the print, packaging and visual communication industries.

The top five are:

  • Parth Bhatt of McHargs, Christchurch – Print Finishers’ Association Binding & Finishing Apprentice of the Year

  • Nurudin Pelenda of Ovato Auckland – Heidelberg Sheetfed Apprentice of the Year
  • Bonny Seymour of the Gisborne Herald, Trust4Skills Reelfed Apprentice of the Year

“Print remains relevant to advertising endeavours, with independent studies illustrating print on paper’s value over other mediums.”

PrintNZ chief executive Ruth Cobb says the apprentices represent the cream of the crop in the sector and in disciplines such as graphic design, digital print and other forms of printing, which continue to play an extremely important role in the advertising and marketing world.

“The print sector continues to remain very relevant to advertising and marketing endeavours, with independent studies clearly illustrating the value of print on paper over other mediums in achieving reach with consumers.

“And, in fact, with the new world of segregation we now find ourselves in, printed mediums could well enjoy a significant boost in popularity as consumers and the general populace seek external stimulation and escape from their computer screens.

“Our new crop of apprentices will be at the forefront of developments to deliver in that space,” Cobb said.
