Single Digits

AUCKLAND, Today: DDB and FCB appear to have contained the pandemic damage with minimum casualties. Both agencies were reluctant to discuss figures, but had no trouble talking in generalised terms about “single-digit” layoffs.

TBWA did even better, with zero redundancies.

FCB ceo Paul Shale: “Covid-19 affected our clients to different degrees, overall with less impact than we initially anticipated.

“We’ve had a single-digit net reduction in our team because of roles moving to more flexible working arrangements as well as new hires driven by client demand for our growing strengths in data, and digital commerce.”

“Nope. All still here.”

DDB ceo Justin Mowday: “Like most agencies, we’ve experienced a slowdown across some clients which has resulted in a small number of redundancies.

“Fortunately, we’ve had some key new business wins and resilient clients across the last few months which has shielded us from the worst of it.”

TBWA’s Ian Benet didn’t waste words, either: “Nope. All still here.”
