Covid-beaters recover faster

SYDNEY, Today: Tim Burrowes, editor of authoritative Aussie newssheet Mumbrella, says media spend has recovered most in states that have done better at beating back the Covid virus.

“The latest Australian SMI figures – which cover media agency spend on behalf of big advertisers – are the most immediate indication of how the media is surviving the pandemic.

“Something of a two-speed media environment is beginning to emerge.

“Unsurprisingly, the better that states have done at beating back the virus, the better that media spend has recovered.”

NZ, too
Last week, M+AD covered the SMI report that shows how the NZ media industry has continued its recovery from the depths of the Covid-induced market declines, with media agency bookings for August back 18.1% and early September figures suggesting an even smaller fall in that month.
