AUCKLAND, Today: Former Media Design School ceo Darryn Melrose is returning to the business as GM of design & creative technology at MDS, Torrens University Australia and Think Education.
In his new Auckland-based role, Melrose will be accountable for scaling the design and creative technology programmes at MDS and Torrens, particularly in post-graduate and adult learning markets. He will also expand the portfolio to the two organisations’ sister universities in the United States.
In November 2020, MDS and Torrens University became part of the US-based higher education network Strategic Education Inc whose universities include Strayer University and Capella University.
MDS and Torrens University Australia president Linda Brown said: “I’m excited to welcome Darryn back to the business. This is a pivotal time as we take the extraordinary impact of our design programs to the world.
“It’s also a critical appointment as MDS moves to its new state-of-the-art campus in the Wynyard Innovation Precinct. Our investment in the new campus will allow for a more flexible and digitally enhanced model to support and facilitate education across borders.”

Melrose was ceo of MDS for five years (to January 2019) and said he is pleased to rejoin the organisation.
“What first attracted me to Media Design School was the unique and innovative programmes and how faculty nurture and develop valuable creative graduates,” he said.
“In recent months I have worked with a range of creative and technology sector employers and have a deep understanding of the skills and knowledge that will be increasingly sought after in graduates.
“I’ve also heard from a range of other sectors of the need for greater creativity in graduates and employees as well as more flexible models for how people can access learning.
“I believe creative technology educators in New Zealand and Australia can play an important role globally in responding to the future of education and work, and I’m excited to rejoin the business to help export these innovative programmes to more students overseas.”
Auckland-based MDS NZ country director Ruth Cooper, Country Director will now report directly to Melrose.
