CAANZ has announced the call for entries for the 2015 Axis Awards – marking the 35th anniversary of NZ’s premier creative advertising awards show.
CAANZ will celebrate the 35 years by showcasing the outstanding, internationally recognised creative work that’s built powerful brands and created long term business success over three and a half decades.
Taking on the role of Axis 2015 chair is Daniel Barnes, managing partner & CEO at Barnes, Catmur & Friends.
“We have a great story to tell; a story of a small island nation that somehow punches way above its weight in generating exciting, world-class ideas. And judging by the work this year has produced already, it looks like the next chapter could be the best yet.”
Duster Andrew, ECD at Clemenger BBDO Wellington has been appointed as Axis convenor of judges.
“It is my hope that with the wise counsel of our international judges, my jury presidents and in turn, their jury members, we can deliver you a show that gets it unspectacularly right.”
Duster’s jury presidents who will preside over the category judging panels are: Nick Worthington (Colenso BBDO), Damon Stapleton (DDB), Regan Grafton (FCB) and Rob Galluzzo (Finch).
Three international judges have accepted invitations to judge Axis. Jean-Remy von Matt, co-founder and creative heart of Germany’s largest independent advertising agency, Jung von Matt, Mark Harricks, one of the most awarded creatives in Australia, Harricks is currently the creative partner at The Works in Sydney and chairman of AWARD. Finally, Matty Burton one of the founding creative partners of the recently opened Special Group in Australia.
The international judges will be in Auckland in early March to join the four local jury presidents who collectively form the executive judging panel. It is this panel’s role to confirm the metal, award any Grand Prix as well as identifying the winners of the Emerging Talent, TVNZ Student Challenge Award and the coveted Grand Axis.
The international judges will also present at ‘Axis Speaks’ to be held the week of the Axis Awards.
The Axis Awards Committee have taken on board recommendations from their predecessors and expanded several of the categories for Axis 2015.
“Over the past two years we have made some significant changes to the Axis programme as we strive to ensure it remains relevant to the industry and recognises the best of New Zealand creativity,” said CAANZ ceo Paul Head. “These changes have bedded in nicely. But the thing about continuous improvement is that is continuous.”
Changes include an entirely new digital craft category, ‘Innovation in’ categories as well as separating the charity categories to ensure that like-for-like entries are judged by the relevant juries when it comes to category judging. A ‘For Good’ category has also been introduced to recognise businesses that are being socially aware/responsible.
The Call for Entries is now live. Full entry details, the list of categories and changes made in 2015, can be found at caanz.co.nz/awards/axis/2015-axis-awards/call-for-entries.
