AUCKLAND, Today: Comms Council ceo Simon Lendrum’s first novel – a crime thriller called Slow Roll set in Auckland’s casino world – is fast becoming a best-seller.
Slow Roll publisher, Upstart Press, told M+AD the paperback sold out its first print run of 2000 books (at $39-$40 each) and is already into a second order of 2000.
“It’s selling well,” said Upstart’s Kevin Chapman. “We’re happy.
“Slow Roll is also enjoying a prolonged run on the Nielsen AUNZ Weekly Bestsellers list.”
“And to make the Whitcoulls Joan’s Pick list is quite an achievement for a New Zealand debut.”
Whitcoulls’ head of books Joan McKenzie – who compiles the highly regarded Joan’s Picks – said: “The characters are snappy, the dialogue is snappy. I just loved it.”
Slow Roll is also enjoying a prolonged run on the Nielsen AUNZ Weekly Bestsellers list.
A slow roll?
In poker, when the winning player deliberately turns their winning two cards over slowly, it is considered a gross breech of the game’s etiquette.
