Digital advertising in New Zealand sees 4.3% annual growth

AUCKLAND, Today: IAB New Zealand released its 2023 Digital Advertising Revenue Report, highlighting a year-on-year growth of 4.3% with total revenue reaching $2.112 billion.

The fourth quarter showed even stronger growth at 7.3%, amounting to $574 million in digital ad revenue.

IAB New Zealand CEO, Angelina Farry, remarked, “It is positive to see the industry delivering solid year-on-year growth, and consistently strong quarterly growth figures.”

The report, a collaboration between IAB New Zealand and Baker Tilly Staples Rodway, showcases 2023’s channel growth leaders: Social media at 15% and Search at 7.7%. In the display category, Audio surged by 32.2% and Video by 9.9%. Real Estate and Food & Beverages led the advertising categories with increases of 28.5% and 21.4%, respectively.

Q4 2023 followed this trend, with Social and Search witnessing significant quarter-on-quarter increases of 19.6% and 12.7%, respectively. Remarkably, Real Estate and Food & Beverages categories saw quarterly increases of 71.3% and 57.2%.

Compiled from a survey conducted by Baker Tilly Staples Rodway, the report is deemed the most accurate measure of online advertising revenue, sourced directly from companies in the digital ad space. It encompasses data from 15 New Zealand online publishers.
