Rānui Apartments creates a home away from home for kiwi families

AUCKLAND, Today: Rānui Apartments has launched a fundraising campaign, working with Plato and Howler, to help kiwi families undergoing medical treatment.

The initiative supports those who need temporary accommodation in Christchurch. Providing free housing to families traveling for life-saving medical care. Managed by the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust, it’s a vital space where families can stay together during difficult times.

With Rānui House at capacity and families being turned away, the need for more space was urgent. To address this, Rānui Apartments, a new 43-apartment complex, will open in November, tripling the available accommodation.

The campaign ‘Get Time Together’ went live this week, aiming to raise funds for the opening and operation of Rānui Apartments. It highlights families like the Raine’s, who stayed at Rānui House while undergoing medical treatment.

“Collaboration was key to bringing this piece of work to life,” says Plato’s Head of Creative, Hamish Grieve. “It’s our second project with Howler, and we’re lucky to share the same passion for craft and storytelling.”

Plato CEO Nick Harvey adds, “We love making a difference in the Ōtautahi community. The Bone Marrow Cancer Trust provides an essential service to families facing tough challenges, and we’re proud to help raise funds for them.”
