AUCKLAND, Today: Drew Lightfoot’s journey into the creative world started unusually early. At just a pre-teen, he was already paving his path in the industry.
Raised in Canada, Drew was always intrigued by technology, showing an early talent in drawing and even taking apart VCRs to see their inner workings. By 10, he was experimenting with stop-motion animation, merging his love for drawing, sculpting, and storytelling.
His hobby quickly turned into a professional pursuit. At 13, Drew interned at a clay animation studio, learning the ropes of production and discovering that art could be his future.
Drew’s career took him globally, from animating TV shows in New Zealand to working on Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride in London. He directed commercials, music videos, and films worldwide, continually pushing the limits of visual storytelling.

Among his notable projects is Horizon, a 9K 360-degree VR and planetarium film that delves into Canada’s cultural diversity. Another project, an immersive film in Ethiopia, impressively raised $7 million in one screening for charity:water in NYC.
Drew’s skills span in-camera techniques, animation, VR, and VFX. “With a fluency across a broad scope of media, I like to let the story drive the technology or medium employed,” says Lightfoot.
From working as Second Unit Director on Amazon’s American Gods to creating immersive experiences, Drew is constantly exploring new ways to blend creativity, culture, and technology.
“Drew’s portfolio is truly unique. His ability to mix mediums in an entertaining manner while doing the story justice is inspiring. We’re stoked to have him join our roster,” says Reel Factory Managing Director Dan Watkins.
Now settled in New Zealand, Drew excels in a space where storytelling meets creative collaboration.
