AUCKLAND, Today: Reel Factory is pumped to welcome the Truesdell Brothers to its director roster. Hailing from New York, Tim and Will Truesdell blend traditional and digital filmmaking with cutting-edge AI.
Known for pushing creative boundaries, they use Unreal Engine, Houdini, Nuke, Gen-AI, and more to craft immersive cinematic experiences that merge physical and digital worlds like never before.
Their virtual filmmaking expertise spans virtual sets, CGI-enhanced live-action, and detailed pre-viz sequences, offering a revolutionary approach to storytelling. Their work redefines what’s possible in VFX and virtual production.
“We believe that physical reality shouldn’t get in the way of a good story, and we’re excited to explore new ways of telling those stories with the team at Reel Factory,” says Tim Truesdell.
Always chasing new tech, the brothers constantly seek breakthroughs, learning from experts and experimenting hands-on. Trial and error drive their approach, with innovation at the core of their process.

“A lot of people are excited about AI/VFX because they make things faster and cheaper. To us, fast and cheap is a quick race to the bottom.

Tim brings a visionary mindset, respecting classic filmmaking while embracing new tech. Will, with a background in editing and post-production, sharpens stories to ensure every scene hits its emotional peak.
“There’s a lot of buzz around AI and what it means for advertising. The Truesdell Brothers are incorporating new tech with traditional filmmaking in a way I haven’t seen anyone else do,” says Dan Watkins, Reel Factory Company Director.
“They may be American but they have a real Kiwi number eight wire approach to filmmaking and AI – if they don’t know how to do something, they, like us, figure it out and make it happen.”
