HAMILTON, Today: Kayla McQuade has joined Hamilton-based agency HMC as Visual Communication Specialist, following a year freelancing across painting, illustration, and design.
“After accomplishing my bachelor’s degree in visual communication at WINTEC and completing a 10-week paid internship, I dove into freelance full time.
“I’ve always had a creative streak – from growing up with a pencil, paper and paint brush in my hand, to later discovering digital art. From there I developed a passion for graphic design and have always loved to tell stories through visual communication.
“After being on my own for a year, it’s been great to join the HMC team. I feel at home here. I have a real sense of purpose being able to create visual work for HMC clients,” says Kayla.

HMC founder Heather Claycomb says visual communication is now a key offering for the agency. “When I started HMC 21 years ago, clients would come to us with challenges and the solution inevitably involved the written word.”
“While the written word remains important, even more important is bringing those words to ‘life’ in a visual and creative way.
“We are working with clients to use graphic design, illustration, animation, video and more to educate, raise awareness and influence. Kayla’s skills are helping us do that in a way that benefits our clients,” says Heather.
HMC is a three-time PRINZ Agency of the Year winner. The team works with clients across the country in industries like property, agriculture and education.
