AUCKLAND, Today: Born in a spare room with two people, a few cameras, and big creative energy, Eyes and Ears has spent the past ten years becoming a go-to name in New Zealand production.

Fast forward to now, and they’ve grown into an 11-strong team producing everything from brand videos to national ad campaigns and award-winning TV shows—shot across Aotearoa, Asia, and Australia.

“It’s been a wild ride,” says Calvin Sang, Founder and Director. “From where we started to where we are now—we’ve got a studio with a production team and full post-prod capabilities in the heart of Auckland.

“We’ve worked with brands I used to only dream of… and filmed projects that still make us go, How is this our job? All of this while levelling up our creative and technical expertise and producing high calibre work that punches well above our weight.”

Over the past decade, Eyes and Ears has built a reputation for sharp, efficient commercial production—whether it’s tourism campaigns, food shoots, animated TVCs or documentary-style storytelling.

Their work always lands with intention. A recent standout was Give Me Babies, directed by Sang and co-produced by Eyes and Ears, which won Best Comedy at the 2024 NZTV Awards.

Alongside creative success, the company’s been intentional about its social and environmental impact. It’s Toitū net carbonzero certified and was the first NZ production company to join Ad Net Zero.

“I am so proud of the fact that not only do we have some really cool opportunities to make big ads and travel the world, but that we’ve always done it with our heart in the right place.

“Even in the hardest times, I get to smile big and laugh heartily every day at my job,” says Briar Collard, General Manager. “We’ve also been intentional about building a team that genuinely care about people and the production process.

“It’s easy to say you value inclusion, equity, and mutual respect—it’s harder to embed that into every job, every set, every conversation. But we’ve put in the effort so it’s become part of the culture here, and it’s attracted the kinds of projects and people that elevate everything around us.”

The ten-year milestone also marks a fresh creative chapter with the expansion of their director roster.

Joining Calvin Sang and Lee Parker-Stapleton are three new names: Johnny Barker, Sophie Black, and James Anderson—each bringing their own distinct energy and craft to the studio.

With more creative firepower on hand, Eyes and Ears is doubling down on range—ready to take on whatever bold brief comes next.
