Air New Zealand has recruited NRL star Benji Marshall for a series of videos promoting the airline’s sponsorship of the 2015 Auckland Nines rugby league tournament.
The ads, which feature Marshall playing coach to a weedy tourist called Jeff, reveal that the footballer can act as well as play.
Not everybody agrees on this, however – the videos did not find a spot in the hearts of two mUmBRELLA readers: “Awful,” wrote one. “Produced by the Footy Show?” wondered the other.
The videos, created by Host Sydney, see Marshall “training” Jeff through a variety of tourist activities around Auckland to get ready for the tournament, promoting a competition to win a long weekend away in the city with winners able to choose one of the experiences in the videos as part of their prize.
The videos are running on YouTube and online. The competition runs until January 26 and includes gold tickets to the event, flights with Air New Zealand and accommodation.
