AUCKLAND, Today: Doug Bell, the entrepreneurial founder/presenter of The Hot Rod Show (Sky 83) is looking for sponsors for his new production. No surprises there – but what makes Bell’s proposal unusual is that not many producers politely approach the ad-media direct. Or that they’re even aware of us.

“Hi Ed,” he writes. “I have a new show on Sky this summer called Top Town for Petrol Heads.

“Thirteen mayors on six race tracks over 13 episodes with 100% of the CO2 generated being offset by the planting of 500 native trees around some of the race tracks.

“This will be a family show – no swearing, no ‘grid girls’ and will help keep racing off the streets.”

“The following 13 mayors have accepted my invitation to compete:

  1. Northland.
  2. Auckland
  3. Hamilton.
  4. Thames
  5. Matamata.
  6. Tauranga.
  7. Kawerau.
  8. Taupo
  9. New Plymouth.
  10. Carterton.
  11. Rangitikei.
  12. Buller.
  13. The Chatham Islands (this is special).

“This will be a family show – no swearing, no ‘grid girls’ – it’s not-for-profit and will promote driver safety and keeping racing off the streets.

“I would like to explore the possibility of a relationship with any of your clients?”

Bell’s current sponsors on the Hot Rod Show include Apex Car Rentals, The Goodtime Pie Co, and Renaissance Brewing Co.
