Fairfax Media has appointed Ellen Read as national business editor: “Ellen will be responsible for setting a bold business content and audience strategy, harnessing the power of Fairfax business journalists around the country to enhance existing products – and develop new ones,” said Fairfax Media group executive editor Sinead Boucher.
“Ellen brings strong business acumen to the role. She is one of the country’s most talented business journalists and editors, and has grown a very strong digital business section in her current role as Stuff business editor.
“She has a deep knowledge of New Zealand business from corporates to SMEs and the economic environment, plus a strong understanding of digital media and delivering the news audiences want.”
Read says she’s looking forward to stepping up to lead Fairfax’s nationwide business reporting team. “I’m excited about the opportunities ahead, developing the kind of business, consumer and personal finance content that our audiences and commercial customers need,” she said.
“Business news is at the heart of things that affect everyone in this country. I want to make sure we report what is happening and, more importantly, what it means.”
Read has been a business reporter and editor since 1998. She has worked in the Press Gallery for Reuters and in Auckland for the NZ Herald, and edited Management Magazine before running the newsroom at the National Business Review.
She joined Fairfax NZ in early 2012 as the Stuff business editor. She’s also a regular radio commentator and panellist on business and wider issues.
Read takes up her new role in February.
