Former NZME executive Phil Eustace has been appointed chair of the Newspaper Publishers’ Association, replacing Gisborne Herald MD Michael Muir, who has held the role since 2007.
“Newspapers remain a powerful force in New Zealand with a combined daily and Sunday reach of nearly two million readers,” Eustace said in a release. “Advertising revenues from all newspapers and their websites totalled nearly $500 million last year, testament to their continuing effectiveness.”
Eustace said newspapers also maintain a critical role in keeping people informed and democracy healthy.
Michael Muir will remain on the NPA board; Phil Eustace retired earlier this year.
