Auckland Council has awarded its business to DDB and Spark PHD following a lengthy pitch which saw .99 and incumbent Ogilvy & Mather left on the sidelines. DDB’s role will be lead creative; Spark will handle media. The council has yet to appoint a digital agency.

“Following an open market procurement process, Auckland Council has appointed DDB and Spark PHD, effective October 1,” said Auckland Council head of brand & channel Sophie Bostwick in a distributed statement.

Auckland Council is a large client (adspend $7.3 million, according to Nielsen) and O&M’s dismissal has triggered rumours of imminent redundancies – but at press time this could not be connfirmed. DDB, on the other hand, is likely to be recruiting.
