AUCKLAND, Today: Bauer Media NZ ceo MD Brendon Hill has finally spoken up in a predictable attempt to put a positive spin on the company’s shocking (but understandable) exit from NZ.

He also, however, holds out hope some titles may survive under new owners.

In a widely circulated email message, Hill wrote (here’s his message in full): “As you will be acutely aware, the Covid-19 crisis is having a profound impact on everyone’s way of life, all around the world.

“The economic fallout of this crisis has been severe, and Bauer Media Group (NZ) has been especially hard hit.

“After exploring the options available to us, we decided that it was best to close down our New Zealand operations.

“This is a very sad time for Bauer Media (NZ), and for our much-loved and respected titles.

“This has not been a decision that I, or the Bauer Group, have taken lightly however it is simply unprecedented times for our already challenged industry.

“Over the past few days we have been attending to the implications of the closure on our staff as a matter of priority.

“As that process is now drawing to a close, our next step is to turn our attention to our relationship with you [Bauer advertiser clients].

“A number of parties have expressed interest in purchasing our magazines and we are working hard to achieve a sale..”

“We would like to take the opportunity to thank you for support over the years. Advertising has been a key part of our business.

“In relation to invoices for advertising we note the following:

  1. We request all invoices that have been issued are paid by the payment due date.
  2. Any published and completed activity will be invoiced as would normally occur.

“If you have any specific queries in relation to outstanding invoices, we ask that you email: accounts@bauermedia.co.nz.

“Please note, we have a small team working on the closure process, so it is likely that we will not be able to immediately respond to your queries.

“We ask for your patience in that regard and will do our best to respond to these queries in order of priority.

“A number of parties have expressed interest in purchasing our magazines and we are working very hard to try and achieve a sale.

“We are extremely hopeful that some or all of the magazines will restart under new ownership and that you will be able to re-engage with new management to continue your advertising relationship.

“Thank you for your support of Bauer Media (NZ). We wish you all the very best for the future.”
