SYDNEY, Friday: Two high-quality award wins for The NZ Herald last week – The paper was named Best Daily Newspaper in Asia/Pacific at the International News Media Association awards for its #NotforSale editorial campaign.
#NotForSale also won the Best Public/Community Service Campaign, heading off several international media brands. #NotforSale highlighted the plight of, and raised funds for, victims of child trafficking and exploitation in Asia. The campaign had a focus on child marriage, child labour and trafficking in India and Myanmar.
The 2019 INMA Global Media Awards competition attracted 664 entries from 165 news media companies in 34 countries. Participants included newspapers, magazines, digital media, television and radio.
Best NZ Daily
AUCKLAND, Friday: And at the Voyager Media Awards, held at the Cordis on Friday night, the Herald was named the Best Daily Newspaper in New Zealand.
Awarding the Herald Newspaper of the Year (circulation 30,000+) the judges said: “The paper displayed a number of excellent news breaks, and a quality production across all sections. The standout edition celebrated 125 years of women’s suffrage. A complete commitment to the project produced an outstanding edition.”
Herald investigative reporter Nicholas Jones won two major reporting awards – Best Scoop, and Best Individual Investigation, and was runner up for the nib senior health scholarship.
Other major individual winners for the Herald included Michael Donaldson (Best Headline), Rod Emmerson (Cartoonist of the Year), Kirsty Johnston (for crime & issues reporting), Luke Kirkness (Student), Kim Knight (feature writing), and Simon Wilson (Opinion Writer of the Year).
The NZ Herald’s Viva magazine won its category.
