AUCKLAND, Today: Christchurch is becoming the latest addition to New Zealand’s iconic Southern Cross Round the Bays fun run, making it the first national series across Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.
The 2025 season begins in Christchurch on February 2, followed by Wellington on February 16, and concludes in Auckland on March 2. All three cities will have an 8.4km waterfront course, with Wellington offering a 21.1km half-marathon option. Participants can run, jog, walk, or roll.
Stuff Events Director Henry McLernon shared, “Round the Bays is New Zealand’s funnest fun run, attracting people from across the motu and the world. I’m so thrilled we can bring this iconic event to Christchurch.”
Next year will be massive for Stuff Events, which already hosts iconic events like Central Districts Field Days and the NZ House & Garden Tours. “The Southern Cross Round the Bays series will deliver even more memorable experiences for participants while supporting business and raising money for charity.”
Matt Headland, Stuff Brand Connections Managing Director, highlighted how Round the Bays aligns with their vision, saying, “Stuff Events is an industry leader in supporting and engaging communities and businesses across the country to create unforgettable experiences.

“The expansion of Southern Cross Round the Bays will have an enormous impact on individuals, business participants, and local economies.”
Chris White, Southern Cross Healthcare CEO, added, “Southern Cross’ vision is to enable healthier years for more New Zealanders, which is why it’s a natural fit for us to support Round the Bays in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.”
Southern Cross Round the Bays is also a key fundraiser for New Zealand charities, raising millions of dollars. In 2025, Make-A-Wish NZ will be the official charity partner, receiving $25,000 and a $40,000 Stuff media package.
Make-A-Wish NZ board chair Struan Abernethy stated, “There are over 300 very sick Kiwi children waiting for their wishes to come true right now. Every single one needs their wish to bring them hope, joy, and strength.”
Businesses will also have the opportunity to get involved with corporate participation packages, offering companies a chance to invest in their people’s wellbeing, support charitable causes, and foster healthy competition between teams across the country.
