AUCKLAND, Today: BC&F Dentsu & OMD have launched a sponsored TV programme on behalf of Meridian Energy to help youngsters cope with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Both agencies stressed that the entire project was created by staff working from home.

BC&FD MD Murray Streets said: “Kiwi kids probably have enough energy to power a small nation, so put them in an isolation bubble with no way to get rid of it, and things can get crazy.”

“Meridian know a thing or two about harnessing energy and through their work with KidsCan Charitable Trust, have seen just how important it is for kids to channel it in the right direction.

“And with schools closed as the country continues to hunker down, it’s never been more important.

“So with the help of BC&F Dentsu and OMD, Meridian, together with KidsCan are powering up NZ televisions with Amped, a high-energy half-hour TV show bursting with great content to keep our tamariki active and inspired during isolation.

“The daily show features experiments, pranks, cooking, magic, survival tips, interviews, workouts and daily challenges direct to your living room, via effervescent host, Walter Nielands.”

“It’s been a huge collaborative effort and a great way to stress test our new way of working.”

Meridian CMO Michael Healy said: “We wanted to create something that will give Kiwi kids a way to burn off some of their mental and physical voltage – and let parents recover a bit of theirs.”

OMD ceo Nigel Douglas said: “We are really proud of our partner MediaWorks who have been able to work with us to execute this idea. It’s sensational to see what great work can be achieved with a client and agency team who believe in the power to do good.”

Murray Streets said: “It’s been a huge collaborative effort and a great way to stress test our new way of working.

“It’s really exciting to see something go out to living rooms across the country that was in a way, made in ours.

“I know my kids are looking forward to watching it, just as much as I’m looking forward to them watching it.”

Amped premieres on Wednesday 8 April and will continue every weekday from 11.30am-noon on Three (except Good Friday). Episodes will also be available for viewing 24/7 on Threenow.
