Andrew Hawley is stepping down as managing partner at Clemenger BBDO Wellington, effective June 1. He will continue in his role on a part-time basis while he “transitions to his creative origins working on a number of early-phase companies and projects”.
The release (out of Porter Novelli) was somewhat vague – his successor is not named nor referred to, and the exact nature of Hawley’s future role and relationship with BBDO –is fuzzy. The release also says “Hawley is now looking to the future for fresh opportunities”.
Hawley began his career at Clemenger almost two decades ago. Then in the early 2000s, he left the agency along with the Touchcast brand and built a formidable offering and loyal client base in both Wellington and Auckland.
“During his time leading the Touchcast team, he helped spearhead much of Spark’s digital brand transition from Telecom as well as numerous successful campaigns and digital projects for Foodstuffs, Education NZ and Immigration NZ,” said Clemenger Group NZ ceo Jim Moser.
“Brett has Clemenger well settled after the merger, so now is a good time for me to return to what I love most – creating start-ups.”
Most recently, Hawley helped merge Touchcast into the Auckland and Wellington BBDO offices and is now looking to the future for fresh opportunities.”
Hawley says: “Brett Hoskin has Clemenger BBDO Wellington well settled after the merger last year, so now is a good time for me to explore new challenges and return to what I love most – creating start-ups.
“The team here are supportive of this decision and I think we all view it as more of a new phase in our relationship rather than an end.”
Moser said “I have known Andrew for close to a decade. Andrew built an enviable business in Touchcast well before we took a financial interest. I have enjoyed working with him over the years and have many fond memories of pitching and winning loads of new business. I’m sure our paths will continue to cross.”
