ColensoBBDO’s Pegasus & the Job Numbers has taken out the championship title for the one event on the advertising calendar that has nothing to do with advertising – Botab 2015.

The eighth annual Fish/CAANZ Battle of the Ad Bands competition saw six agency bands fight it out in an epic clash of egos, volume and music ability last night at The Kings Arms, emceed by Radio Hauraki’s Mikey Havoc.

ClemengerBBDO/Proximity Fatal Death kicked off the night with a great cover of the Bee Gees’ Tragedy and the winning band also performed a brilliant cover of Amy Winehouse’s Valerie.

Last year’s winners Whybin/TBWA pulled off a great cover by Taylor Swift – Bad Blood.

Groupiesupport was at an all-time high for some of the agencies – particularly Colenso BBDO’s Pegasus & The Job Numbers and OMD’s The Chased.

“Our esteemed celebrity judging panel of David Gapes (M&AD), Leigh Hart and Angie Boyd (Hauraki Deejays) were impressed by their quality of musicianship and performance,” said CAANZ events manager Sasha Langham. “And of course the costumes were a knockout!”

For their efforts, ColensoBBDO – Pegasus and the Job Numbers were awarded:

  • A production run of their very own designed ice cream flavour from Much Moore Ice Cream.
  • A Music Video by Fish&Clips
  • A day’s online production at MandyVFX.
  • And a $500 Lunch at Prego
  • Grey Goose Vodka
  • the Botab trophy

The bands:

  • Pegasus and The Job Numbers from ColensoBBDO
  • The Dooyahs from Whybin/TBWA and DAN
  • Goth Darnitt and the Self Flagellation Foundation from Flying Fish
  • The Chased from OMD
  • Friends Electric from Barnes, Catmur and Friends
  • Fatal Death from Proximity / Clemenger BBDO

The 2015 BOTAB again saw the support of the New Zealand Music Foundation. Funds raised will again go towards community projects and helping those in need.

The 2015 Botab again saw the support of the New Zealand Music Foundation.  “We’re honoured again to have the support of an event that is such a fantastic celebration of music by the ad industry” said Peter Dickens, general manager of the NZ Music Foundation. “The way that Botab understands and engages with our mission of using music to help those in need in NZ is truly inspiring. We want to thank CAANZ, Flying Fish, all the sponsors and most importantly the bands for making it such a great night.”

“And of course it wouldn’t be possible to bring the fun each year to Botab without the love and support of our sponsors – Apex Insurance, Event Cinemas, Holy Chic, Working Style, Redbull, Hauraki Radio, Liquid Studios, Mandy VFX, Pronto Print and Design, Asahi, Windflower Florist in Parnell, Blunt Umbrellas, Grey Goose, Prego & Much Moore Ice Cream.”
